Hi guys!

Im kinda new here. I've noticed that Train does a lot of meet and greets. Have you gone to one of those? I went to one, but it was pretty quick! But I must say Pat is really sweet. I saw a couple of fans getting hugs from Pat during the M&G i went to. Scott and Jimmy are really nice too.

How the M&G goes depends on the organizers/producers I think...

Maybe we can share out M&G experiences here. It would be nice to know what the band is like :D

I went to the M&G in The Woodlands this tour, and it was lovely! You're right in saying that the M&Gs are pretty quick. Plus, in The Woodlands, Maroon 5's M&G was just before Train's, and Maroon 5 ran over the time limit, which was kind-of a bummer--we ended up having to wait a little while extra, and I think that there was a bit of a rush, since Matt Nathanson was already on-stage 1/3 of the way through our M&G line.

But, the M&G was still a blast! I was towards the end of the line, so I spent quite a bit of time chatting with the other M&G fans, taking pictures for each other and talking about other concerts. And, it's funny, because most people seem to say that Pat's most talkative, followed by Scott, then Jimmy. But, if Scott said anything other than "Hi!" when I met them, I can't remember! LOL.

Anyway, during my M&G, Pat was talking up a storm--he complimented my hair/glasses/makeup, blah, blah, blah--and while he was signing my VIP pass, I said, entirely joking, "I'm totally missing Matt Nathanson right now to meet y'all!" Apparently, though, I didn't say it quite sarcastically enough, because Pat started getting flustered and apologizing, "Oh! I'm SO SORRY! Are you a fan of Matt's?! What's your favorite song of his?! You know, Matt's a friend of mine, I'm sure that...." before I could clarify, "I'M KIDDING! JUST KIDDING! I came to see TRAIN! I honestly don't think I could even name one of his songs!" which apparently came off as too sarcastic--and, now that I've heard him live, I love Matt's music! I could totally name a few of his songs! ;)

But, apparently, I overcompensated while demonstrating my lack of enthusiasm for Matt's music, and Jimmy started laughing--we were about to take the photo, and he had to turn away for a minute to regain his composure. Pat just smiled and said, "Oh, nice! You know, he's a friend of mine. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of this!" Then, once Jimmy chilled out again, we took a picture, and I walked off to find my seat.

Also, I've been to a few other M&Gs for various artists, and while Train's is indeed quick, they do take the time to meet and chat with every single person at the M&Gs, which I think is better than how some other musicians do things. I've been to M&Gs that had only group photos taken by an official photographer, followed by a small acoustic performance. That's nice, but most people don't get any chance to even say hello! Plus, once, back when I was in middle school, I ended up at a Keith Urban M&G, and when we all got positioned for the group photo, I happened to be standing next to him. A fully grown woman proceeded to elbow me in the ribs and push me out of the way to steal my place in the picture! Some people go a bit crazy during group meet-and-greets! ;)

Even though Train's M&Gs go by quickly, if there's a limited amount of time, I'd rather it be divvied up equally amongst the fans rather than just be a free-for-all for the band's attention. I like that everyone gets face time!

This tour, the main way to get M&G passes seemed to be through buying VIP packages. I think I spotted a tweet about it (maybe I got an email?), and the VIP packages went on sale through this website. To get a M&G pass (as well as some other things) was $125 plus the price of the ticket. This is the first time that I got M&G passes for Train, so I'm not sure if they'll be using this same web portal for future tours, but if you're on Trainline.com, I'm sure you'll be able to find out about M&G passes pretty quickly!

Other than that, I'm not sure how to get M&G passes for Train. For non-concert appearances, it's probably done on a case-by-case basis, and radio stations usually have contests for M&G passes, as well. For bands other than Train, I've been able to score M&G passes through official fan clubs and street teams--which, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't work for Train tickets, but maybe they'll do some contests in the future? I've really got my fingers crossed for that, because I'm a student, and while I got my M&G passes this tour as a gift, I so cannot afford to buy them, myself! ;)

Liz, I had the pleasure of hosting the band in my home on August 6, 2010. They gave a private performance in my backyard. Before the performance I spent some time getting to know the three fabulous gentlemen that make up the band Train. Pat, Jimmy and Scott are genuine, thoughtful, and real. They were fun to be with engaging and eager to please. After an early morning performance in New York on the Today Show , and a long bus ride to Rhode Island to get to my home , they were all smiles and anxious for me to tell them what I would like to hear them play. With their customary passion and energy , they gave an unforgettable performance that afternoon. They left my small crowd as energized and happy as they do the the much larger audiences they play to regularly. Pat , Jimmy, and Scott give all they are and all they have. I am proud to say that I met the three incredible men and talented musicians that make up the best band under the stars......Train

This is really nice! I love reading your posts!

keep 'em coming! :D

OK, then I'll put in my 2 cents. I have had the pleasure of being on Trains "friends and family" list for several shows. That's also known as "aftershow" and it's a more relaxed chat time then the VIP packages. Plus there are no camera rules, since you are being invited by the band. So I have had lots of hang out time with all the boys, including Hector & Jerry. They are all as fabulous as they seem. Pat is hysterical and we love to tease each other. Jimmy is quiet but always smiling and funny. Scott is shy but friendly. Jerry is super-smart and Hector gives the best squishy hugs EVER. And Thomas O'Keefe (aka TO) is a big teddy bear. I can't wait till the next tour to see them all again. I have been truly blessed to have this type of access to my favorite band.

wow that's so awesome teresa :p

How? I just prayed really really hard that I'd meet them! haha well it's persistence+luck+divine intervention! :D

the first one I had was at a mall. there was a CD signing for save me san francisco. All i had to do is buy the CD from the venue and have it signed by the band! Pretty cool huh? but there were no pictures allowed. bummer. I tried to take one but the result is this terrible profile pic I had. I had to do it behind the security's back so it was really quick. Pat was really sweet and agreed to have the picture. I ALMOST got away with it, well except for this poorly taken picture haha! I even asked Pat if I could take another one because i didn't quite got the first one right. He was all smiles and really eager haha but but security caught me and pulled me away while taking the picture! (well not in a violent way) too bad i wasn't able to  greet Jimmy, who was supposed to be next to Pat

But in general, you just have to be persistent, maybe look for promos/contests.

Im from Asia, and Train has performed here just twice. Train performs there in your country a LOT of times, I'm sure you'll be able to meet them someday ;)
